Should you hire a static or mobile skip bin?

You may already know about the advantages of hiring a skip to dispose of your rubbish, but you may be puzzled about which type to get. Traditional skips sit on your drive or pathway and are typically removed by chain lift, but you may also be considering a mobile, wheeled skip bin. Here is a quick overview of the advantages of each type.

Static bin

The main advantage of a static skip bin is that they can take heavier rubbish. You will probably need to use this kind of skip bin if you are carrying out any kind of building or renovation work - mobile bins are unsuitable for building waste such as bricks or concrete. Static bins can also come in larger sizes than mobile bins.

The design of a traditional skip bin may also be more convenient - they usually come with a drop-down door at one end, making it easier to load up and access the bin. Not all skip bins have this feature, though, so you should check with your supplier if this is important to you.

Mobile bin

The big advantage of a mobile skip bin is that it is easier to manoeuvre. As long as you can reverse a trailer into the space, a mobile skip bin can be positioned there. This means you can situate it in places where a static bin simply couldn't be placed, which is a big advantage if space is at a premium.

Because of the lightness of the bin, even when full, you will not need to worry about any kind of damage to your driveway or surface - the bin will simply be wheeled on and off again, and you'll never know it was there.

You will also likely not need any kind of council permit to install it - since it is effectively the trailer from a vehicle, it can be left anywhere that a car can park.

Finally, these bins usually come with a lockable lid so that you won't have to worry about neighbours or passers-by using the service that you've paid for.

In summary, if you have any heavy building waste to dispose of, you will probably need to use a traditional static bin. For lighter loads, however, you may find a mobile bin more convenient. Just talk to your local hire service about your needs.
